International golf tournaments played in China include the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, TCL Classic in Sanya on Hainan Island, the Volvo China Open and the BMW Asian Open, played in the PRC.

The Mission Hills Golf Club golf course at Guanlan in Shenzhen province is said to be the world's largest golf course.

At the amateur level, Golf is seen as the top recreational sport for businesspeople and government officials.

The most common type of golf bet involves picking the outright winner of a tournament. Typically a sports book will list 30 or more individual golfers along with a field (all others) option, at various odds.

Another popular form of golf betting involves matchup propositions, in which two golfers are paired against each other in a head-to-head wager, with a betting line on each golfer set by the odds maker. The golfer with the better (lower) score wins the match-up. (If one golfer continues play in the tournament after his opponent misses the cut, the golfer who continues play wins the matchup.)
